Several UK label printers have picked up new work from Diageo since the demise of Jarvis Porters wet-glue labels division.
Walsall Litho, Tecnolabel of Leicester, Burall Cawood in Liverpool and Omerods in Rochdale have all won orders from United Distillers & Vintners, the Diageo subsidiary which produces many of the UKs biggest spirits brands.
Some work has also been farmed outside the UK - to Alucolor in Dublin and Italian printer Eurostampa.
Tecnolabels managing director, Tony Williams, a former JP manager, said the presses had already started rolling with Diageo labels. As a new company, Tecnolabel had the capacity already available. "Call it strategic planning or just good luck," he said.
Jeremy Bridgman, marketing manager for Walsall Litho, said his company had secured "some of the more difficult work" for several major brands, adding that the new Geitz foil blocking machine purchased in February and the Heidelberg 6-colour double coater installed last August would help to accommodate the extra orders.
