Spiral Colour puts strong results down to Revoria install

Carpenter: Spiral's print quality is "noticeably better"

Macclesfield digital and wide-format printer Spiral Colour will hit £1m annual turnover this month, up 18% on its 2023/24 results, with general manager Jason Carpenter putting the positive results down to the firm’s installation of a Fujifilm Revoria PC1120 in summer 2024.

Founded in the 1970s as a local printer, Spiral Colour has seen specific growth in short-run envelope work, an area previously out of the company’s reach, which the new Revoria has also helped propel into a profit centre with use of its special colours.

Printing up to 120ppm with resolutions of up to 2,400dpi, the new machine can print in metallic colours and white – the latter, Carpenter said, had been a “game changer”.

“The quality of print we’re now able to offer is noticeably better,” he added.

“While most of our clients aren’t aware of the technology we use, they’ve definitely noticed the difference in what we deliver.”

The Revoria PC1120 replaced a well-used Konica Minolta AccurioPress C6100 digital press, which had come to the end of its life.

Carpenter told Printweek: “It was battered by the time we finished with it. Before we had that we had a pair of Canons of the same specification as the Konica; the Konica was doing the same amount as them both combined. We put a lot of work through it, and we’re hoping to do the same with the Fujifilm.”

Progress has been good so far, with the install fuelling solid growth at the seven-staff operation. The team know the new machine well, with two members of staff trained up to operate and maintain it.

“We’ve also picked up a client who does NHS hospitals, and we do a lot of refurbishments, and we’re now seeing growth in the signage segment too – so we should see nice growth,” Carpenter added.

“I just hope we grow nicely. We’ve got potential, we have good clients, and a very good reputation.”
