The equipment, which comprises a Polar 115N Pro Autotrim guillotine, a 115N AT Automated Cutter with a pressing station and a BM105 multi-station bander, was installed at the firm’s Glasgow factory in October and commissioned in December.
The line is also specified with Compucut, a modular software system that generates cutting programs automatically from JDF prepress data, reducing set-up times.
The new cutting line, which according to chief executive Tom Brown has removed existing bottlenecks in production, will run alongside a Polar 115XT Autotrim line that will continue to be used for ad hoc and commercial work.
Waste from the Autotrim will be removed to a Kongskilde waste extraction system, which the company acquired in 2012 along with a Gietz hot foil blocker and two Audion shrink wrapping lines.
Brown said that the company's lean manufacturing model coupled with a new MIS, developed by sister company GT4 and fully operational since December, has made the firm far more efficient.
He added: "We have developed this software internally, which allows us to integrate mobile apps for better control and we have large screens in the factory displaying information from planning and print queues through to dispatch, so that all staff are informed. It reads all the data and traffic lights everything from ink and paper usage to maintenance needs."
The company, which prints labels predominantly for the food and drinks market for global giants such as Baxters and Nestle UK, produces wet-glue and self-adhesive labels as well as offering digital and litho printed products.
Brown said that the business had been growing at a rate of around 20% per year and expected to turnover £6.5m in 2013.
"We're also looking to recruit two more members of staff to the team to improve efficiency in the dispatch area as a result of the new leaner model," he added.
Last year Gavin Watson became the UK's first label printer to attain the ISO 12647-2 colour management certification though Heidelberg.
