Delivering copier paper to the paper merchant’s London-based customers, the truck is expected to save 4,250 litres of fuel and 12 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year compared to a diesel truck.
Gm2 logistic manager Peter Hockley, who was instrumental in getting the vehicle trialed, said: “The arrival of the truck is another exciting step forward for Gm2 and its customers in terms of doing what we can to reduce the company’s environmental impact.”
The company converted to 100% renewable electricity in 2006, so recharging of the vehicles will also be carbon neutral.
Another truck has been ordered for the Belfast area and further investments in electronic delivery vehicles are planned.
The company is also investigating electric trucks that can carry a heavier payload.
