Cook will work alongside Folio founder Andy Bird, who said he had wanted to bring onboard an experienced leader.

The company, which was formed in 1989, has seen steady growth in the past 20 years and currently has a turnover of £3m, employing more than 60 staff.

However, Bird said his business had the mindset of a small family business and needed someone a fresh approach.

"Although the company has grown we were still thinking small and we have been looking for a senior executive with experience of a larger organisation," he said.

"His 'larger organisation' experience will help us to continually improve our systems and working procedures, many of which have evolved with the company and an outsider's view is proving invaluable."

He added Folio has always had a close working relationship with S&G and has known Cook for a number of years.

"When I heard Paul was leaving S&G and looking for a fresh challenge I was intrigued," he said.
