The automated dot gain compensation software was originally designed to support (and came packaged with) X-Rite's Intellitrax press sheet scanning spectrophotometer.
However, from version 1.1, the tool will work with all presses equipped with online auto-scanning devices, including Komori PDC-SI and PDC-SII and Heidelberg ImageControl.
Alwan said that the decision, which followed "strong demand" from Alwan's partners, would enable printers to cost-effectively improve performance and comply with standards.
Matt Fehn, director of technology at US-based Alwan distributor Lacrosse Litho Supply (LLS), said: "LLS is one of the largest providers of pressroom products and services in the US. We have sold and installed ‘instrument-to-press' closed-loop systems for many years and I am thrilled by the results of our first installations of Print Standardizer.
"The idea of building an automated closed-loop system between press and pre-press is great. But for it to really work in practice, the technology had to be very reliable – which is exactly what Print Standardizer is. Alwan has fulfilled its promise of making presses match standards for every job."
In addition to its dot gain compensation technology, Alwan's Print Standardizer ensures presses conform to two other requirements of ISO 12647: solids (CIELAB colours) and mid-tone spread.
France-based Alwan said that, since its launch in March 2009, Print Standardizer has made it possible for "dozens" of printers in France, Italy, The Netherlands, UK and US to adopt ISO 12647 standards.
"Many printers are using the solution to cut costs and shorten ISO 12647 implementation time," the company added.
