Print Standardizer, which automates dot gain compensation, is a package of Alwan software with an X-Rite Intellitrax press sheet scanning spectrophotometer and Pantone Goe colour libraries.
"There are two requirements for ISO 12647 compliance, getting the solids and the dot gain right," said Alwan president Elie Khoury. "Closed loop and near line press control systems are good at making the solids right, but dot gain remains a problem."
Khoury claims that the ROI for the package, which costs £36,000 (€39,000) is six months.
"Implementing ISO 12647 can be very tedious," said Khoury. "Certification requires someone to champion it, and to do all the measurements and averages. It's a full-time job but printers don't have the time or money to do it."
The underlying technology is based on Alwan's Dynamic DeviceLink technology and a patent-pending dot gain analysis algorithm.
A database allows specific paper and press combinations to be managed. The system averages readings over time to ensure curves are as accurate as possible.
Khoury said that the software will help any firm seeking to gain ISO 12647 certification including Fogra, Ugra and the forthcoming UKAS-accredited scheme for the UK.
Print Standardizer follows hot on the heels of Alwan's PDF Standardizer, a joint venture with Enfocus that fixes the colour and content of received PDFs.
