Designed for packaging applications, the system consists of four components: base inks (Base IG), extenders (X Extender), additives (Add) and overprint varnishes (Star). These are mixed to create inks with the appropriate properties for either gravure or flexo printing.
The range includes Premo Board, Wrap, Mail, Flex, Dessin, Bag and Pack, which are all specific to an application or substrate. Each has optimised properties for its application, including print speed, coverage, gloss level, low foaming, low odour and rub, water, heat and scuff resistance. The use of extenders can further fine tune the inks for more specific applications.
To create a general purpose ink the highly-concentrated mono-pigmented base inks are brought down to the correct strength using an extender. By adding a technical extender or additive to the mix, a higher quality ink with enhanced properties can be created. Overprint varnishes can also be formed for special effect work.
The four components can be bought separately and mixed on site, or Flint’s technical team can create and supply the required inks. In addition, the firm can form lay-down varnishes that consist of a selection of premixed extenders and additives. These can then simply be added to the base colour to form the correct ink type.
