The range has been developed with Wolstenholme International, the Lancashire-based metallic inks specialist, and is suitable for use on sheetfed offset kit in the publications, label and packaging markets. The inks are said to be of particular interest in perfecting applications.
In addition to the eco-friendly tag, Sun Chemical says the range offers improved press performance, rub resistance, higher brilliance and opacity, and rapid setting and drying.
Kevin Purdy, technical service director, commercial sheetfed at Sun Chemical says: “This range has been rigorously tested to the highest standards and the end result is great performance on press.”
The launch is part of Sun Chemical’s overall commitment to improving the environmental credentials of its products and has been supported by a print and direct mail marketing campaign. The initiative will see the firm reformulate its conventional inks, so that more than 80% will be vegetable oil-based.
The company said the Metal-Eco inks leave no build up on blankets or plates and dampers remain clean, which increases productivity.
The inks are available in the full Pantone range of metallics as well as classic metallic shades. They can be blended with Pantone inks to produce Pantone polymetallic colours, as well as other standard metallic colours. Sun Chemical Pantone Inks are already vegetable oil-based and are said to be perfect for blending with the new Metal-Eco range.
