The 0.76m-wide (30in) VersaUV LEC2-300 is the latest addition to the LEC series of printers, which Roland said are known for their contour cutting precision and UV ink special effects.

Designed for premium labels and packaging prototypes, the device prints at resolutions up to 1,440dpi and can handle substrates up to 1mm thick. Its cutting speed is up to 300mm/sec.

The LEC2-300’s UV ink is designed to adhere to the surface of a diverse range of materials, including paper, tarpaulin, PET or PVC-based substrates, and textiles. The printer can take clear and white ink as well as CMYK, and is capable of a wide range of effects, including matt and gloss finishes, simulated embossing and other custom-textured effects.

Its contour-cutting function has been enhanced to cut out printed graphics with great precision, while an automated process eliminates the need for platemaking and die-punching for trimming adhesive decals, labels, and stickers.

The Multiple Print function also means high-volume jobs can be printed efficiently and unattended.

Additionally, the model features a newly developed printhead, which allows precision ink delivery and control, and powerful new LED lamps, which speed up ink curing.

Kohei Tanabe, president of Roland DG's Digital Printing Business Division, said: “The LEC2-300 builds on the best feature of the series, making it both easy and economical to produce high-value-added prints.”

He added the model allows consumers “to create unique items” and “keep ahead of the competition”.

“We developed the LEC2-300 to provide our customers with the power to quickly produce creative designs in as many formats and methods as possible.” 

The LEC2-300 costs £16,499. A demo unit is available to see now at Roland DG's Clevedon office and stock will be available in November.
