Xaar invests in 'core markets' with printhead launches

Xaar has introduced two new printheads, the Electron and Proton, designed for wide- and grand-format printers.

The Cambridge-based inkjet specialist has said the new Platform 1 additions, which raise its number of printhead models to eight, will boost productivity in wide-format applications.

The Electron is claimed to be the fastest, high native resolution printhead for both the indoor and outdoor graphics market and offers a 70% speed increase over original Xaar 126/128 printheads.

In addition to providing solvent and UV ink compatibility, the Electron head is available in 35 picolitre and 70 picolitre drop size configurations.

The wide-swathe Proton printhead measures 53.7mm and is designed for high-volume indoor and outdoor graphics. It features piezo and nozzle processing technology and jets a 35 picolitre drop size from individually-lasered nozzles.

Ian Dinwoodie, chief executive of Xaar, said: "These new printheads are the result of our strategy to develop and enhance our existing technology platforms and invest in core inkjet markets."

He added the response to the new Platform 1 products has been positive, with new printers already coming to market that set new standards in performance as a direct result.
