The Erdington, Birmingham-based print finisher took delivery of the 22-tonne Guowang C106Y at its 557sqm premises in March.
The company invested £237,500 in the machine, which can reach a maximum of 7,500 impressions per hour and is said to be the first of these machines to be installed in the UK.
Director Verity Oakes told Printweek the kit has been taken on to increase the size of paper the company can work with and to enable quicker turnaround times, to move the business forward.
It will be used to finish large B1 foiling and die-cutting jobs such as packaging, book covers, folders, and wrapping paper.
The company also considered a couple of other machines but decided the Guowang C106Y would be the best all-round fit for the business, and with the budget it had.
The kit was supplied by Ipswich-based CMI Print Services, who Oakes said her company knew of previously.
“We contacted them and some other suppliers when we were looking for the machine, they came out the best to deal with and had the best offer, we also really liked the machine they had.
“CMI were brilliant to deal with and have shown great ethics from start to finish including the sale right up to installation, also with ongoing support.”
Serving printers, marketing agencies and end users, VI Print Finishing also operates an Autobond laminator, two Heidelberg cylinders, a Heidelberg platen, a Saroglia FUB 56x74 die-cutting and hot foiling machine, and a D&K laminator. It employs five full-time and two part-time staff.
