The West Bromwich-based business already operates a 2.5m-wide Agfa Anapurna hybrid flatbed/roll-to-roll printer at its circa-370sqm premises but was looking to increase its capacity and for the ability to process a wide range of substrates more easily.
It took delivery of the Colorado, which is additional to its existing portfolio, around three months ago.
A fully modular roll-to-roll press for large-format graphics, the 1.6m-wide Colorado 1630 delivers “unsurpassed automation, excellent print quality, high productivity, and extensive versatility with low TCO emissions”, according to Canon.
Sean Gamston, sales director at Beacon Print, said the business has become much more competitive and cost-efficient since installing the Colorado 1630. The machine has also enabled the business to access the digital wallpaper printing market.
He told Printweek: “Beacon Print has been trading for just under 10 years and we’ve always tried to keep up with the times.
“We’ve been thinking about a Colorado machine or similar for a while now and have jumped this year and gone for it. It’s what we needed to do to keep up with the speed and quality and to offer more services to not only existing clients but also to new clients.”
While Beacon Print had dealt with Canon years ago, the machine is the first it has bought direct from the manufacturer and Gamston said he was happy with Canon’s service and support and described the quality of the machine as “out of this world”.

Beacon Print works for direct clients including SMEs, corporate businesses, and local authorities, as well as serving the trade.
It specialises in small and large-format digital print, exhibition graphics, signage and installation, litho print, and bespoke label printing, running B3 and B2 litho machinery as well as four-colour digital.
