Potts Print has taken on a Vantage 720 folder gluing line from Moll to help with its capacity and reduce the company’s lead times.

The Cramlington-headquartered business, which also has a Scotland office in Glasgow, took delivery of the machine at its Northumberland production site in October. It invested £135,000 in the kit.

An addition to the company’s tech portfolio, the device will work alongside its existing Signature folder gluer, meaning the business can interchange work between the two machines.

Moll said the machine is capable of producing crash-lock, four corner and it is also producing two-up sleeves through the machine with pre-break.

Potts Print managing director Michael Johnson told Printweek: “The Vantage 720 can finish a variety of finishes including uncoated and coated stock, single- and double-sided laminate.

“In addition to doubling our folding/gluing capacity, the Vantage has the option of hot melt glue for single- and double-sided laminate as well as four corner and bespoke gluing options which our existing kit isn’t capable of. It also has higher operating speeds.

“The addition of the Vantage allows us to double our packaging finishing capabilities and drastically reduce lead times for clients.”

Beck Owen, deputy director of HR and corporate services in Potts Print’s operations division, added: “Training has gone well, and the machine is now in operation. We’re working with Moll over the coming months to complete a schedule of planned training to make the most of the machine’s capabilities.”

The addition of the Moll machine completes a year of major investment within the business including certification to ISO 27001 Information Security Management, a Canon VarioPrint iX3200 inkjet press, and two Horizon folders.

In addition it runs Manroland and Heidelberg litho presses.

The firm has also installed a £200,000 solar PV system on the roof of its Cramlington site to continue to drive down its operational carbon footprint in line with its Carbon Balanced Printer status.

With 102 staff, Potts Print is on track to achieve £14.5m turnover in 2024.
