Vaseys Colour Printers has bought an automated B1 six-colour Komori Lithrone 640 with coater, its third Komori press, which will be commissioned in the middle of this month.

Basically our workload was overflowing on both our other presses, hence the need for another, said managing director Guy Vasey.

Vasey said that the company was completely satisfied with its six-colour Lithrone 628 and five-colour Lithrone 544, and that the new press was a necessary step.

The majority of our new business is suited to B1 production, which would not be economic to run on the other presses, said Vasey.

The Northallerton-based colour printer is aiming to boost capacity by some 35% with the installation of the new press.
Vasey also talked about his involvement in new company Colour Central Print, and said it would not conflict with the Vaseys operation and there was no intention to merge the two firms.

There are certain synergies between the two companies, but that is as far as it goes, said Vasey.

Vasey is one of three shareholders in Leeds-based Colour Central, a Heidelberg house, formed after Fourkolor Print went into receivership at Easter.

Vaseys was formed in 1865, and Guy Vasey is the fifth generation family member to be in charge of the commercial colour operation.

Vaseys specialises in limited edition books through to direct mail and financial institution work.

The North Yorkshire company employs 40 people and is on target for a turnover of around 3.3m for 2001.
