Medica Packaging adds a second B1 LS640 to its Komori arsenal

Benson Box-subsidiary Medica Packaging has upgraded its carton printing line-up with the addition of a second six-colour B1 Komori press.

Medica's investment is the latest in a long line of Komoris that have found their way into the Cheshire-based company's premises.

The company supplies folding cartons and leaflets to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries and already has a four-colour Lithrone 428, a six-colour Lithrone 628 and a six-colour Lithrone S640.

Medica has now added a second B1 LS640, and claims to have already generated a production increase of around 30%.

Managing director Peter Brassington said: "We have had to reduce lead times and continually work to the leanest costs as it's not unusual for customers to hold reverse auctions to lower the price.

"The LS640 has reduced changeover times drastically with its pre-set functions, wash-ups and top running speed of 16,000 sheets per hour. Our main requirement was compatibility and a highly competitive commercially viable machine."

Medica, which employs 220 staff and has a turnover of £17m, was formed in 1920 and has previously been part of GlaxoSmithKline. Benson Box bought the company in 1995.

The company is currently working on standards to make braille more cost effective for customers.
