UK companies honoured in Sappi's European awards

Three UK printers won awards last week that aim to showcase the best of print and design in Europe.

Hampton Printing (Bristol) won a silver gong at the Sappi European Printers of the Year Awards for a four-colour Aston Martin DBS brochure with silver ink and gloss coating.

Judges praised the reproduction of metallic and shiny surfaces on Robert Horne Paper’s Hello Gloss 170g/m2.

St Ives Westerham Press in Edenbridge, Kent, scooped a bronze in the books category for a bright pink publication called Noelle Represents, which used foils and matt laminate.

Midas Press in Farnborough, Hampshire, also won bronze in the calendar category for sporting images of F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.

Berry Wiersum, chief executive of Sappi Fine Paper Europe, said: "The creativity and craftsmanship of printers and designers can transform our products into items of real worth and beauty."

The judges chose 38 award winners from around 1,500 entries from 34 countries across Europe and the Middle East. The ceremony took place in Hamburg, Germany.
