Tudor Design and Print enters new market with Presstek investment

Tudor Design and Print has "opened up a new market" for quick turnaround four-colour work after investing in a Presstek 34DI digital offset press.

The commercial and packaging printer, which is based in Alvechurch, near Birmingham, has been completing runs of between 2,500 and 3,000 sheets on the 34DI, but has also already produced three 15,000pp jobs.

The company claims that since installing the new machine, which replaces a two-colour B2 litho press, it has won around 20% more work, including business stationery, poster, brochure and booklet production.

Managing director Tim Price said: "It's opened up a new market for us in mid-range, quick turnaround, four-colour printing where we were never competitive before on a large-format press."

Staff at Tudor Design and Print have also been impressed by the speed and quality of the new Presstek machine, transferring "a lot" of short-run brochure work to the press.

"It only takes 8.5 minutes to image a set of plates on the 34DI and then we can run a job at up to 7,500sph without spending time adjusting it to bring it up to sellable colour," he said.
