Digipress Presstek investment results in more work

Digipress has responded to a growing demand for four-colour printing by investing in a Presstek 34DI digital offset press.

The Didcot-based digital printer said it has become "more competitive" with the machine and this has allowed it to take on more work.

Digipress originally moved into the offset arena 18 months ago, following the acquisition of local printer PlanIt Press.

Although it took on a two-colour Heidelberg GTO press in the deal, the company was losing work, according to director Ian Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald said that while the machine was fine for spot colour and mono jobs, it was necessary to migrate into four-colour to win work and increase competitiveness.

The 12-staff printer has since boosted its four-colour intake by 20% since the Presstek investment. "We have gone from strength to strength, which has been encouraging in the current marketplace," he added.

Digipress has also benefited from the lack of chemistry on the press, which ties in with the company's environmental policy.

Fitzgerald said: "We’ve quickly realised that it’s a big selling point to say that we are an environmentally friendly printer.

"It’s something that we have always wanted to be and it’s paying off. As well as using Presstek’s soy-based inks and more recycled papers, we are also working towards FSC accreditation."
