Scotprint shelved until October 2003

Scotprint, the biennial Glasgow show, has been postponed until next October.

Organiser Trade Events decided to postpone the show, which was due to take place on 20-21 November at Glasgow’s SECC.

"We could have run it but it would have been a disappointment to visitors and exhibitors," said organiser Gary Swinford.

Of the 35 exhibitors at the last show in 2000 he claimed 20 had agreed to exhibit at this year’s show. He put the problem down to potential exhibitors having already spent this year’s marketing budget on Ipex.

"It’s disappointing," said Litho Supplies joint managing director Gerry Mulvaney. "I was very pleased with the resurrection Gary carried out on Scotprint. But there’s no point running it if it’s not going to be a success."

Litho Supplies is running its own road shows during the autumn to keep its profile up. It has taken a different tack and is offering sales training to its customers as well as showing the latest technologies.

AB Dick sales and marketing director Ray Hillhouse echoed the importance of having an event at this time of year. "It’s disappointing about Scotprint. It gets good visitors from all over Scotland and the north of England. I think we’ll use the time to have an event at our Glasgow showroom to promote the Presstek Dimension (see story on p12).

Swinford said that plans for April’s Print UK at the NEC were progressing with "the logicality of the proposal being more and more accepted".

It is the second show that Trade Events has shelved this year. Plans for a Print 4 Marketing show in London to take Print UK’s previous slot at the end of October were dropped earlier this year. It was to have been the first of a series of regional shows under the Print 4 Marketing banner.
