Scorpio MBO team target expansion

Chief executive Ian Whitfield and sales director Daniel Graham have led an MBO at Scorpio Print Finishing.

They have taken over at the Pudsey firm, one of the UKs largest print finishers, from chairman and founder David Richmond.

Whitfield and Graham were part of the team that changed Scorpio from a retail support business into a print finisher, and have overseen investment totalling almost 15m.

The deal to buy the 10m-turnover, 200-staff company was backed by the duo and private investors. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Whitfield said he was looking forward to taking Scorpio to the next stage. Its very exciting, weve come a long way in a short time and we now intend to develop further on the platform left us by David.

Expansion is also on the cards, possibly beyond Scorpios Yorkshire base. We have an appetite for looking at other businesses, but theyve got to be complementary. Can we build on what weve done here in the Midlands or South West? The crucial element is to build on our service provision, Whitfield added.

Richmond founded Scorpio in 1987. In 2001 the firm moved to an 8,000m2 purpose-built factory at Pudsey.

He said he was leaving Scorpio in the hands of an exceptional management team.

It was time to go Id achieved what I set out to and built a business that made money and changed the perception and profile of finishing, he added.
