The MAN Roland Lithoman III and Komori System 38S presses and the Screen PlateRite Ultima 24000 make up the biggest buy in the Romanian print industry so far this year.
Komori’s Leeds-based UK subsidiary has been tasked with setting up the 16pp heatset offset 38S, which includes inline Gammerler cutting and finishing equipment. The kit can produce 50,000 pages per hour.
Germany's Druckmaschinen has installed the 32-page web heatset offset Lithoman III press.
The new presses are already up and running. A spokesperson told printweek.com that "Infopress uses six heatset machines – four 16pp and two 32pp – [which operate] 24/7 all year round. In addition, the company has sheetfed production capacity to print high-quality magazine covers."
The commercial print industry in Romania is blossoming, according to Infopress. Birgir Jonsson, managing director at Kvos International, which owns Infopress, told us: "The print market in Romania is growing rapidly. Competition is, however, increasing both domestically and from international players.
“Average paper consumption per capita in Romania is 30kg a year, while the UK is at 230kg per year. The growth potential is, therefore, massive, as the local economy develops. Following Romania and Bulgaria's accession to the EU, we envision the sector to grow very fast for the next seven to 10 years. Kvos is determined to lead this growth and to maintain its position in the long run."
The spokesperson told us the company subsequently expects to add in new hardware to meet increased demand. "We have plans to add two new heatset presses (32pp and 48pp) in the next 18 months, so this recent investment is only the initial stage in our investment plan," he said.
"We have planned to invest more than £34m to strengthen Infopress and other Kvos companies in central and eastern Europe in the near future."
Romanian print firm ploughs 10.2m into kit
Infopress, Romania's biggest printing house, has invested in two new presses and a platesetter for 10.2m (15m).
