Komori and Goss land US kit installations

Two major installations of Komori and Goss presses are set to go live in the US.

Print and communication services company CGI North America has installed a Komori S40 and a System 38S.

The eight-colour sheetfed S40 press went live in March, while the six-colour, 16pp System 38S heatset web machine was up and running in April.

CGI is now one of only two US-based printing firms to operate a System 38S, which turns out 60,000 sheets per hour.

David Klaiss, president and chief operating officer at CGI North America, said features such as the closed-loop colour control systems for flexible and faster colour control and consistent print quality were important for satisfying the company’s varied customer base.

“We’re expanding our capability to produce high-quality commercial printing and at the same time bringing our clients the latest in colour reproduction technology,” Klaiss added.

Meanwhile, Creel Printing is installing a new Goss Magnum 4 single-width newspaper press at its facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The company, which specialises in commercial catalogue and publication printing as well as newspaper production, already operates several Goss presses and finishing kit.

The 4pp machine, which has eight four-high towers and two Goss N-40 folders, has a 22-inch cut-off, 35-inch web-width, Goss Omnicon controls and quarter-fold capabilities.

Goss Magnum 4 presses can produce up to 45,000 copies per hour, but at this configuration will print up to 35,000 copies per hour.

Creel president Allan Creel said the investment was to meet growing demand for high-quality printing, particularly in the south-western US.
