The Oakham-based business moved around a mile and a half to a unit around half the size of its previous site last month in order to save on rent and running costs. At the same time it installed the new guillotine, which was bought from Terry Cooper Services (TCS) for around £7,000.
The 52H, which has replaced a Polar 72 guillotine that was part exchanged, has a maximum format of 520mm in width and 520mm in depth with a hydraulic drive for knife and clamp and an optional air table.
It also features a light barrier, infra-red cutting light beam and full programmability via a touchscreen.
Quoin Print director Sam Smith said: “It’s a more programmable machine that is going to save us time and I’m sure it will make a big difference speed-wise.
“As there are only three of us we tend to print at the start of the day and finish at the end. Sometimes this could back up. Now we are able to get it done quicker, which will be a great benefit in the long run.”
He added: “We were going to take the old one with us but the costs for moving it were going to be quite expensive. It also had a much larger footprint and wouldn’t have fit in without knocking a wall down so by the time you’d added that in as well it wouldn’t have been practical.”
Quoin Print, which was established in 2003, produces a wide range of print from business cards to brochures for local and international customers. The firm also operates two Konica Minolta digital presses.
