Printable Technologies posts record results despite downturn

Printable Technologies, the US-based web-to-print and variable data publishing software developer, has bucked the trend of the downturn by posting record results for the first quarter of 2009.

The company announced on Tuesday (20 May) that its fiscal performance during the first quarter of 2009 was the best in the nine-year-old company's history.

Coleman Kane, president and chief executive of the privately-owned developer, said: "We have been very fortunate to realise such a strong performance during this tumultuous economy."

Printable's performance appears to have confirmed fellow software developer Claritum's assertion that cost-saving and process improvement technology providers would benefit from the recession.

Printable's flagship FusionPro Desktop and FusionPro Server Variable Data Publishing (VDP) products provided the majority of its new sales in Q1, with FusionPro Desktop installations now topping 13,000, according to the company.

Meanwhile, adoption rates for the company's newer plug-and-play VDP server FusionPro Direct and its FusionPro Links personal URL campaign tracking system, grew by a multiple of five and 13 times respectively.

This growth was due, in part, to the company's aggressive pricing strategy, which led it to slash the price of FusionPro Links from $5,000 (£3,169) to $995 and eliminate any fee per URL created.

The company said that previous dramatic reductions, with FusionPro Direct and FusionPro Desktop, had had a similar effect.

"Each pricing change has resulted in significantly increased sales, revenue and market share," it claimed.
