Orbis Print, which has five staff, offers a range of services including B2 litho printing, artwork, bespoke websites, QR codes and print and website audits. The company uses the printing facilities and equipment of another York-based printer.
Lloyd-Hughes said: "I’ve been involved in print, design and online technology for around 25 years and I decided that now was the right time to go for it. Our aim is to provide a cost-effective service with a quality end product."
Last week, Lloyd-Hughes also launched a networking group called Made in York, which aims to encourage local business to procure products and services from other local companies. The group, which is hosted on social networking website Linkedin, already has more than 40 members and is to hold its first board meeting on 27 March.
Lloyd-Hughes added: "We want to encourage procuring from the locality and believe it is critical for the UK’s economic revival. The only criterion to join Made in York is that your business operates from a valid York postcode.
"Once the York model is up and running, there is no reason other cities could not follow suit."
