The Milton Keynes-based business was founded in summer 2005 with a small team and a handful of loyal clients.
It said its milestone anniversary marks two decades of “creative excellence, fearless evolution, and a steadfast commitment to delivering results for its clients”.
The company’s portfolio has seen significant growth since its inception, going from supporting local and national brands to partnering with large global organisations.
Today, Nutshell is a full-service business that helps brands across all industries to tell their stories in creative and compelling ways.
Despite its evolution, the firm still works with a number of clients that it has served since its inception, and said these longstanding partnerships were a testament to its creative ability, client insight, value, and care.
While the company was an early adopter of automated and digital marketing platforms, Nutshell has also championed the power of print as part of the marketing mix and has specialised in creating integrated campaigns for clients.
The business has also attributed its continued growth to its culture and focus on identifying and developing talented people, which it said has led to a creative and diverse team of designers, marketers, writers, technical experts, and more.
Nutshell is listed on The Drum’s Recommended Agency Register and, last year, was named Buckinghamshire Business of the Year at the SME Business Awards, which it has been nominated again for in 2025.
Alongside her role as managing director, Nutshell founder Lucy Swanston also holds the positions of chair of the Strategic Mailing Partnership (SMP) and chair of the Independent Print Industries Association (IPIA) marketing committee and is also a Direct Marketing Association (DMA) council member.
She is also the founder of Topic Heroes, a charity that provides a learning resource to support primary school children with their writing skills.
Swanston said: “It’s hard to believe Nutshell has been going for 20 years. It’s been an incredible journey, and I feel so lucky to have worked with such brilliant people – clients, colleagues, and partners – many of whom have been with us since the early days.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of it. Here’s to many more years of doing what we love and having fun with great people!”
Nutshell said it would celebrate its milestone throughout this year, with a raft of activity that the agency said would recognise its clients and community, champion the work of the team, and shine a light on the evolution of the company.
