The NHS Pension Scheme is the largest centrally administered public service pension scheme in Europe with 1.3m members and the Pensions Choice contract will ensure they are informed of the one-off option to transfer their pension benefits from the 1995 Section to a 2008 Section, which has a later 65-year-old retirement age.
This will be done through a range of channels, including high-volume direct mailings of pension information to scheme members, which will be undertaken by Communisis.
Members will receive a Choice Pack that includes an explanatory booklet, a 'choice statement' (showing a comparison of benefits in the 1995 and 2008 Section) and a DVD.
The Pensions Choice campaign will begin at the end of May in England and Wales, with Choice Packs being mailed out from October. It is expected to take three years to complete.
Communisis managing director Alistair Blaxill said: "Through our partnership with Prolog, NHS Pensions can combine the businesses' strength and expertise of data-driven transactional communications, document production and multichannel delivery."
