Neolt to debut 'solvent-priced' UV large-format printer at Viscom show

Wide-format specialist Neolt will debut a 1.65m-wide large-format UV printer that will sell for the same price as a solvent equivalent at this year's Viscom exhibition.

The modular Asterjet 1650 enables SMEs to produce UV-cured work, with an entry-level configuration using four printheads "closing the gap between solvent and UV" in terms of pricing, according to product marketing manager Bruno Wijnands, although he declined to give an exact figure.

The Asterjet can be configured with four or eight Xaar printheads for four-colour work. This can be upgraded to six or 12 printheads to add in light cyan and light magenta.

It uses UV-curable inks from Inx Digital and prints at 50sqm/hr. It is suitable for banner, adhesive vinyl, blueback paper, backlit film and polyester fabric applications.

The Asterjet will be on show at Viscom Italy in Milan (booth K11) between 5 and 7 November and will be commercially available in January 2010.

Neolt said it is in the final stages of appointing its first UK distributor, which it expects to sell the Asterjet into the UK by the time of launch.
