The Ossett, West-Yorkshire-based company, which employs 220 staff, installed a six-colour KBA Rapida 162a with coater last August as part of a £2m deal.
It also added a Rotek 2000 SPV pile-turner with blower and vibration from finishing equipment manufacturer Friedheim shortly afterwards.
Managing director Phil Findley told PrintWeek: "There have been cost advantages to the new machine, but we are also doing a lot of environmental work and it fits in with that.
"We are looking at lightweight materials such as polypropylene and it has allowed us to do that. With the machine, KBA is pushing boundaries. Now it up to us to push it further and see what we can get out of it."
The KBA Rapida works with automated setting systems and can handle sheet sizes from 1620x1200mm.
It is the £20m-turnover company's first large-format litho press – adding to its B1 litho, screen, flexo and digital machines.
Running double-day shift Kolorcraft’s press has been installed complete with DensiTronic for quality control and documentation when printing sensitive substrates.
Findley said: "Our core business remains the same but the new press is enabling us to be more competitive on higher volumes. It is allowing us to target peripheral market areas such as longer-run, free standing display units (FSDUs)."
Kolorcraft's clients include high street stores and out-of-town retailers in the electrical, fashion and DIY sectors.
The company prints an array of products including plastic display boards, posters and large FSDUs.
