Under the terms of the deal, Ingram's product CoreSource will host, manage and distribute approximately 11,000 titles in the UK, US and Canada, with more scheduled to be added in 2009.
Penguin group chairman and chief executive John Makinson said: "Penguin's mission of connecting our… authors and their books with readers everywhere is strengthened significantly with Ingram as our digital partner."
The agreement came as Amazon announced it was to delay the UK launch of its Kindle e-reader as it negotiates wireless contracts with the myriad of European providers.
Amazon said the product had been a huge success in the US with 380,000 units expected to be sold by the end of the year.
