Indian paper plans major expansion

Indian newspaper Sakaal has announced a major expansion with the construction of a new printing plant and publishing house in Pune, western India.

Sakaal is the leading Marathi newspaper of the Sakaal Group of Publications.

The Sakaal Group, which was established in 1932, has invested in a Manugraph Frontline for the new site and has bought violet technology CTP from Agfa for its pre-press operation.

Bhausaheb Patil, technology director technology at Sakaal Group, said: "Initially we used Harris machines for printing our newspaper.

"Later we switched to Manugraph and have been printing on these machines for a decade. We have decided to consider the same brand as a part of our expansion plans."

Manohar Pidugu, general manager at Agfa India, said: "Sakaal has been associated with Agfa for a quite long time.

"Previously, they were using imagesetters from Agfa and now they have invested in an Agfa CTP."

To manage the pre-press workflow, Sakaal has Agfa's Arkitex workflow application and PolarisXTV-S platesetter.
