Fuji introduces its PDF Print Engine-based workflow

Fuji took the wraps off a new workflow based on JDF and the new Adobe PDF Print engine at Ipex, and also drew crowds to see its processless plate Brillia Pro-T being printed live on its stand (pictured).

The as-yet unnamed workflow is built from the ground up around JDF and will drive all media, not just print. "Choose the media stream and everything else is automatic," said Leeson.

All pre-press functions, such as pre-flighting, imposition and trapping will be completely automatic and it will "certainly interface with Xerox and HP presses".

"We're excited we've not been at the front of the workflow game before," he said.

The firm had a B2 Komori Lithrone on its stand showing how its thermal plate can be "dropped into" a current system with no plate imaging speed penalty and no limitations to the type of screening or run length.

"I'm not aware of any pre-press supplier running a press on its stand at a show before," said Fujifilm Graphic Systems UK marketing director Graham Leeson.

The plate could also be seen in action on the Heidelberg, Komori, MAN Roland and Ryobi stands.

The firm also showed its processless violet plate Brillia Pro-V, which is currently a technology demonstration. Fuji revealed it was working on the technology last year and Leeson welcomed Agfa's announcement at Ipex that it too was to commercialise a violet processless plate next year. "It shows the technology is moving forward," he said.

The workflow will begin shipping before the end of the year.
