Murphy worked in the print industry for more than 40 years. He joined Curwen Press as a 16-year old apprentice lithographer in the late 60s before spending 27 years at Masterprint in Woolwich, where he headed production before embarking on a print sales career.
“I’ve known Phil since he was 16-years old, he was my apprentice at Curwen, he turned into fantastic minder and more than that a fantastic friend, my best friend – he had so many friends in the industry and beyond and will be sorely missed by all,” said former Mitsubishi sales director Mick Carr.
Murphy rejoined Carr at Mitsubishi in around 2003 as southern area sales manager, ultimately becoming national sales manager for the press manufacturer’s UK operation.
He joined KBA in 2009 as area sales manager for London, the Home Counties and East of England leaving around three years ago.
Murphy, who was 60, passed away earlier this month after suffering from cancer and leaves behind his wife Jan, two children and two grandchildren.
His funeral will take place at 1.20pm, 3 August at South Essex Crematorium in Upminster followed by a wake at The Huntsman & Hounds, Ockenden Road, Upminister. Friends and former colleagues are welcome to attend.
Murphy’s family have requested family flowers only, but donations are welcome to St Francis Hospice under the name Phil John Murphy at www.justgiving.com/philjohnmurphy.
