Curtis joined the family business, which was founded by his father Frederick George Curtis during the second world war, in 1953, leading the business as managing director through the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
He became chairman in 1997, before retiring in 2008 and handing the chairman’s reins to his brother John Curtis.
Peter Curtis passed away on 6 January 2020 following a short illness.
Current Curtis Packaging managing director James Williams said during his tenure, Peter Curtis was instrumental in leading the company into the production of high-quality folding cartons.
“Peter will be fondly remembered by staff both past and present and our thoughts are with his family,” said Williams.
He added that he will be long remembered for his “booming voice, jovial laugh and a good old-fashioned, red-headed temper.”
Peter is survived by his sons Jim, Oliver, and Curtis commercial director Ben, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
His funeral will take place at Randalls Park Crematorium, Leatherhead on Thursday 30 January at 11.45am. Former industry colleagues and friends are welcome to attend, and rather than flowers donations can be made to Dementia UK.
