At the event the company launched its new concept, HighPrint: a slow drying digital print technique. HighPrint allows digital printers to add thermographical effects which previously had not been possible.
Caslon said: "The onset of digital printing has seen a decline in the popularity of many specialised processes. As Thermography requires wet ink, this has suffered too."
The HighPrint system uses a duplicator, which is usually used because of its quick drying qualities. However Caslon has had the effects reversed, so the ink is slow drying. Once coated, the sheet is passed through one of Caslon's ThermoTech machines.
Caslon added: "We figured if a duplicator can dry quickly there is no reason it can't dry slowly. We have been staggered by the response at the event, which proves that thermography is coming back."
Drupa reveals digital interest in thermography
Richard Caslon, managing director of the 300-year-old finishing equipment manufacturer Caslon, has declared that "thermography is back" after exhibiting at Drupa.
