DirectSmile unveils software update

DirectSmile has launched a new version of its image software which it claims is more of a complete personalisation tool.

Version 3.0 of DirectSmile allows for a wider range of personalisation on one image and an "unlimited number of text lines for image personalisation text".

Functions include new transforming grids, set wizard, frame functionality and stylesheets. The New Design Editor allows users to check designs at any time with permanent previews.

"This version is more accessible for beginners but also has more sophisticated design options for high-end users," said DirectSmile marketing manager Johannes Goebel. "It is a more creative tool and has more to offer than just images."

He added that the software can tie-in with InDesign although Goebel added that the version "does not have to be used with InDesign only". The updated product can also run on workflows including JDF and PPML while data can be directly sent to the RIP.

"It can link up with email and website work," said Goebel. "The version also has the option of allowing the user to create their own fonts. It is a tool that allows more design and creative freedom, which we feel makes it different from XMPie's uImage product."

Version 3.0 is on sale worldwide from 13 March.
