CUP press buy boosts speed and cuts costs

Cambridge University Press (CUP) has invested in pre-press equipment from Creo, in a bid to cut its overheads.

The installation at the university's printing and publishing house comprises a Lotem 850 B1-plus fully automatic platesetter, with Staccato screening.

The investment also includes Synapse Prepare PDF creation software, and CUP is considering further investment in Creo's internet-based software, Synapse InSite.

According to the firm, turnaround times have significantly improved following the investment in new equipment.

The Lotem will feed CUP's two Akiyama J Print B1-plus format presses producing 2,000 plates per week.
