The Cork-based business will take delivery of the new machine in August. The machine arrives nine months after severe flooding left the company under five feet of water.
City Print's hunt for a replacement was delayed by a period of insurance settlements and price negotiation; however, managing director Michael Courtney praised the speed with which Heidelberg was able to deliver the press once the order was in place.
He said: "We desperately needed a replacement for our SM 52-4 and although they were quoting us eight to 10 weeks they managed to divert a press within two weeks.
"It was a five-colour with coater, but Heidelberg didn’t take advantage of our situation and negotiated a fair price and put us back in business."
According to Courtney, the water-damaged CD 102-5+L was only two years old but previous positive experience with Heidelberg led the company to re-invest.
He said: "The makereadies were quick and the productivity fantastic and it could run 100 or 100,000 posters and they’d be off in a flash."
City Print has also recently invested in an MBO B30/44 buckle-folding machine and a Palamides Delta 502 automatic delivery system, supplied by Friedheim.
