Canon previewed a 50ppm CLC colour laser printer on its Drupa stand - a 60% speed increase on the existing 31ppm CLC-1000.
The prototype CLC-PM can produce 50 full-colour single-sided A4 prints per minute. Canon staffers described it as a 2001 product. Resolution is higher than the existing CLC machine too, at 800x400dpi.
Canon is also showing its Virtual Print Room software suite, which was first seen at the CeBit show earlier this year. The system has been jointly developed by Bracknell-based Canon Systems Management Europe and Canons Danish operation.
We think its the first scaleable printroom/copyshop solution in the world, stated Henrik Hansen, presales and development manager at Canon Denmark. Its a ready-made server solution for in-house printrooms, and is ideal for people who do lots of reports..
The system is web browser based, and its functions include the generation of standard documents by, for example, people who work from home and dont have access to a printer. It can also load balance jobs across multiple print engines. Two linked GP605 printers at Drupa were capable of producing 120ppm..
The server with load balancing function costs around DM15,000. It is already in use at two Danish firms: bank Unibank, and at engineering group Carl Bro.
This is the future. There is a lot of old-fashioned thinking about publishing, and theres too much of that here at Drupa, added Hansen..
