The CLC 5100 is a high-volume printer, able to run at up to 51 pages per minute (ppm), while the CLC 4000, with speeds reaching up to 40ppm, is designed for the entry-level and mid-volume markets.
Canon claimed that the new models offered advantages in speed, media weight versatility and output management over previous machines.
The printers replace the CLC 5000+ and CLC 3900+, and both can handle media in weights of up to 253gsm thanks to Canons new Paper Deck-R1.
Finishing options for both models include Nagel Finisher, a saddlestitching device for booklets, and the high-capacity TS100 stacker, which is able to support 2,500 sheets for extended runs.
Both the CLC 5100 and the CLC 4000 will be shown in the UK for the first time in November at the Digital Print World exhibition at London Olympia, and they will officially launch in the UK market in January 2004.
Canon has not yet confirmed UK prices, but in the US the CLC 5100 will be available at around 38,0000 (US$63,000) and the CLC 4000 at 32,000.
