Jeakings, who has been at Archant for more than six years, replaces the outgoing John Fry, who will be joining Johnston Press as CEO on 1 January.
He said: "It is fantastic that we have continuity of the business and I will be looking to build on what John Fry achieved in the role."
Jeakings, who will begin his new role on 1 November, added that he would be looking to develop the company's burgeoning magazine business and looking to expand its online offering.
He will also oversee the expansion of Archant's Thorpe plant, which will have four new towers added by the middle of next year.
Archant recorded a turnover of £194m last year – £55m of which was generated within the magazine business.
