AP Denmark has launched its Mosaic software application to make it simple to break a large image down into smaller tiles to make production and installation simpler.
It has also formed a deal with Rockfon, a manufacturer of sound absorption and insulation panels, to combine its panels with canvas prints to produce even greater acoustic absorbing properties.
"Just one canvas print can improve an interior's acoustics," said AP Denmark chief executive Ib Norholm. "But when combined with Rockfon you get much better results. It's an aesthetic way of doing acoustic improvements."
Norholm said that although Rockfon was available from builders' merchants his firm specialised in supplying it for graphics applications and added it was also much easier to implement with smaller prints, hence its Mosaic application.
"If you print a big image how will you mount it?" he asked. "With Mosaic the software calculates how to tile the image, including accounting for the thickness of the stretcher bars. That also makes it easy to put Rockfon behind the picture, as with big images it is difficult to mount."
The Mosaic software costs €499. AP Denmark has tested its system with HP Designjet printers, inks and canvas. Sister firm Sumopix uses HP equipment to produce its acoustic print panels, although Norholm added it was possible to use other vendors equipment and fabrics.
Rockfon is a division of Rockwool, the international insulation and fire resistant products.
