ABC Print to be Heidelberg's beta site after makeready achievements

ABC Print has saved 1.5m sheets of paper per year in makeready waste since investing in a new Anicolor from Heidelberg, it has claimed.

Results at the Herefordshire-based B3 printer have been so positive that Heidelberg will be using it as a beta test site to continue development of its products.

In addition to its paper savings, the printer, which uses vegetable-based inks and FSC/recycled paper, has cut down its CO2 emissions and achieved water and energy savings.

Managing director Mike Greene said: "We save more than 32 tonnes of paper each year and reduce the impact on the environment by around 40 tonnes of CO2 a year. The savings in labour costs and electricity are pleasing to say the least."

The all-Heidelberg house added an Anicolor to its arsenal, which includes a 10-colour SM 52 and two Suprasetter A52 platesetters running Saphira Chem-Free plates, in late 2007.
