Attendees at the organisation's inaugural Graphic Industry Supply Chain Workshop on Carbon Footprint & Energy Efficiency last month concluded that the current sector and national approaches were "confusing, costly and complex".
David Stamp, director of marketing and communication at PrintCity, said: "We have got many different proposals with everyone talking about measuring carbon differently."
The event, which was held in Germany, had more than 30 attendees, including members from Manroland, Sun Chemical and UPM.
According to PrintCity, this confusion needs to be rectified with a clearer and more concise approach to carbon footprinting, with new initiatives by Intergraf and ISO being the first steps in the right direction.
The PrintCity Alliance is set to release a report, Carbon Footprinting & Energy Efficiency, relating to its findings in autumn this year.
