Q&A: David Hyams, managing director, Print Fair

David Hyams, managing director of Print Fair, is 52 years old and has two young children. He says he used to do cultural things, but is now more often than not found watching CBeebies with the kids. How did you get into printing?
I was working as a graphic designer for one of the first digital printers in London. I thought I could do more with the technology than was on offer, so I jumped over to the dark side

What would be your dream job?
My current job plus a decent Christmas bonus

Who would play you in a movie about your life?
Idris Elba (The Wire/Luther)… Oh, okay, Martin Clunes

What is your dream bit of kit?
My iPad, when my three-year-old lets me use it

Who or what do you hate the most?
Spam. Mindless reality TV. Premiership football

Who do you admire most in the industry?
Gary Mahoney at Charterhouse. He didn’t understand what I do, but gave me a job anyway

What is your favourite phrase or saying?
‘I could do that’. It’s usually followed by my wife saying: ‘No, you can’t’

What is your greatest luxury in life?
My children (followed by my wife)

What is the strangest job you’ve ever done?
Picking stones on a kibbutz

What is your greatest ambition?
To have a lie-in

Most embarrassing moment?
Blind date. Keys. Boot. Tow truck

What’s your worst fashion disaster?
I was an art student in the late 1970s. Need I say any more than that?
