The company submitted four varied samples that all drew praise from the judges. Special mention must go to the ‘micromotion’ technology it applied to the production of ‘O-ring’ disk packaging to promote the latest release of the Disney film Tron. The aim was to showcase the 3D element of the film, so AGI deployed its patented micromotion technique under licence. The four-colour O-ring was printed on one of the company’s Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 presses on 500 micron silver-foiled lined folding boxboard. The sheets were then overprinted with a varnish effect using its Sakurai silkscreen press. According to one judge, the end-result was a "stand-out piece" that combined lovely finishes to create movement and that shouts ‘buy me!’ Another judge simply said the piece was "stunning". Another part of the promotion for Tron was the company’s involvement in a special-edition packaging run for the film. Limited to just 1,000 units, AGI produced cube packaging, using nano-corrugation, on its six-colour Heidelberg SM 102 UV press. Gloss varnished in-line and mainly assembled by hand, a judge on the panel said the product "sparkled" and was a "great, fun use of print". The panel was also impressed by the lenticular treatment AGI gave the DVD release of action film Limitless. Produced to a run of 450,000, the impressive pack was printed with a 100lpi 3D lenticular panel using Flint four-colour-process inks.
