Muller Martini broadens newspaper printer markets with online stitching

Mailroom equipment manufacturer Muller Martini has said that newspaper printers can now completely integrate their mailrooms in order to move into new sectors.

At this year's Ifra Expo in Hamburg, the company announced that it is now possible for one of Muller Martini's saddlestitchers to be incorporated into the mailroom process, rather than run offline, which had been previously been the only option.

According to the company, this will enable newspaper printers to print commercial products during the day, when their presses usually sit idle.

Muller Martini UK managing director Andreas Schillinger said: "Newspaper printers need to get as close as possible to a magazine printing ethos and that includes saddlestitching. For this they need a proper saddlestitcher, a conventional saddlestitcher.

"With our system a printer can print a newspaper-type product, add a glossy cover, add a CD, stitch it, trim it and insert into it, all as part of one system. They will be able to add value in the mailroom and allow them to use up that capacity that isn't being used."
