The Swindon-based commercial print company bought the Horizon SPF/FC-200A in April from UK distributor Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS) for around £30,000.
The plant produces both litho and digital work, running a five-colour Komori, four-colour Heidelberg MO and single colour GTO alongside an HP Indigo 3050 and Xerox high volume printers.
To accommodate the varying machines, MPD Offset had to find a bookletmaker that could handle a mix of jobs with quick and easy makereadies.
MPD Offset managing director Graham Seeley said: "Some jobs can be a single digital copy while others can be much longer litho runs, so we wanted a system that could cater for all eventualities.
"Our operators often move around from one process to another and the SPF/FC-200A has fitted in very well."
The Horizon machine, which replaces a Duplo 5000 bookletmaker, produces 4,500 booklets an hour and features 200-job memory storage for instant recall.
Seeley said: "We chose the SPF/FC-200A because we knew a few people that were very happy with the Horizon machine and said it was easy to use. We wanted something that was as easy to run as the Duplo."
Seeley added that strong build quality and a high residual value were further factors in the company's decision to invest. "Horizon has a very good reputation so we are sure we will get a good trade-in value when we eventually look into that."
