LightBrigade 'bangs out' its newest litho graduate

LightBrigade has kept up a centuries-old tradition by 'banging out' Presstek DI operator Robbie Bell on completion of his apprenticeship.

The 18-year-old, who joined the Chertsey-based company two years ago after a stint of work experience, recently completed a City & Guilds in litho printing. He reports to head of litho Geoff Griffiths.

The company is a firm fan of apprenticeships, large-format operator James Eacote is currently halfway through a two-year course, and the company is currently looking to take on an additional apprentice too.

"The two apprentices we have got – we wouldn’t swap them for the world," said managing director Andrew Edwards.

"By taking on an apprentice you can make sure staff are trained to your specifications." Recalling his own banging out 30 years ago Edwards laughingly claimed he was "still seething".
